2010 Climbing Management Summit

Held in Las Vegas, NV on Oct 23-24, 2010 the goal of this conference was to bring together land managers and field-level personnel who are involved in recreation policy and climbing management, discuss climbing management practices that work to avoid typical problems, bring consistency in policy and enforcement, and impose fewer unnecessary climbing restrictions while meeting the various obligations of land managers. We had one day in the field at the Bureau of Land Management’s Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area with shorter more informal presentations covering a range of topics, and one day in a conference room with more comprehensive presentations.

The Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, US Forest Service, and Access Fund are worked together to organize the conference, identify potential presenters, and promote attendance within their agencies. Representatives from the Las Vegas Climbers Liaison Council, American Alpine Club, and American Mountain Guides Association also attended.
